Buda grew along the I-35 corridor in a concentrated burst, and the consequence is a town where a very large share of roofs were installed between roughly 2005 and 2015. Sunfield, Garlic Creek and Whispering Hollow each went up as tracts, so whole neighborhoods now run roofs of near-identical age, material and installation quality.
When hail crosses a town built like that, it does not produce a scatter of individual problems. It produces streets where every third house needs the same conversation, and streets where nobody does, depending entirely on the path the storm core took.
Tract construction of that period leaned on entry-level architectural shingles and, in the earlier phases, three-tab. Both bruise at smaller stone sizes than a heavier laminated shingle, and three-tab in particular tends to fracture rather than bruise: the impact splits the tab, and the split works open under thermal cycling until it is a genuine breach.
Age compounds it. A twenty-year-old shingle has lost its flexibility. The mat is brittle, and stone that would only have dented a new roof cracks an old one.
On a tract home of that vintage, a moderate hail repair and a full replacement are often not the same conversation, and the gap between them can be most of your deductible.
Check your declarations page for one line in particular: whether roof losses settle at replacement cost or actual cash value. On a roof past fifteen years, that single clause moves the payout more than anything an adjuster decides up on the slope.
Because Buda damage runs in bands, the useful question is rarely whether your neighborhood was hit. It is whether your slope orientation caught it. Hail arrives at an angle, and a storm that wrecks south-facing slopes can leave north-facing ones untouched on the very same house, which is why we inspect and photograph each slope separately.

Hail often arrives with strong wind. From the ground, look for lifted or missing shingles, displaced ridge caps, bent vents, damaged gutters, loose flashing, or debris impact. Do not climb onto a wet or damaged roof.
