Hail damage roof repair, Taylor, TX. Documented inspections across eastern Williamson County, on housing stock that spans more than a century.
Few towns in our area have a recent record this consistent:
And on 30 May 2024, four-inch hail was logged at Coupland with 2.75-inch at Beyersville — roughly twelve miles away, on the same storm complex.
Every one of those landed after eight in the evening. Taylor’s hail arrives in the dark, which is the reliable way for real damage to go unrecorded: nothing is visible, it sounds like heavy rain, and the stones are gone by morning.
The Samsung development has changed Taylor faster than any town we work in, and the result is two housing populations sitting side by side with almost nothing in common.
The historic core carries homes a century old — plank decking rather than plywood, original framing, multiple roof layers accumulated over decades, and porch roofs at shallow pitch in materials no longer manufactured. Hail damage on these is rarely a straight swap, and the tear-off routinely reveals decking that must be replaced before anything new goes down.
The new subdivisions may have newer roofing systems, but age alone does not establish whether storm damage is present. An inspection should assess the roof covering, flashing, vents, pipe boots and gutters. Whether damage is covered and what the insurer will pay depend on the policy terms, deductible and claim review.
An inspector who treats those two populations the same will get both wrong.
On older properties we inspect the attic and decking as well as the roof surface. On newer ones we go over the penetrations and soft metals as carefully as the field. Either way you get photographs, measurements and a written estimate.
Storm dates and hail sizes come from the NOAA Storm Events Database, which records reports filed with the National Weather Service. A gap in that record means nobody filed a report, not that no hail fell.
