Roof Repairs
How Skywall approaches roof repair in Central Texas — finding the actual source of a leak rather than patching the stain.
Skywall Construction · Roof Repair in Cedar Park, TX · Free inspections, always
Cedar Park sits on the Edwards Plateau side of the divide, and that changes the failure pattern from what we see out east.
Here the soil is thin, stony and alkaline over shallow limestone. It does not swell and shrink through the year the way Blackland clay does, so Cedar Park homes are largely spared the seasonal cycling that works joints loose in Pflugerville and Hutto. What they get instead is differential support: a slab that bears on bedrock at one corner and on a few inches of residual soil at another. That produces movement that is smaller but permanent, and it concentrates at one end of a structure rather than distributing across it. On a roof it shows as a single ridge run pulling apart, or one chimney flashing consistently failing while everything else on the roof is sound.
The second Cedar Park factor is exposure. The western edge of the city runs up against the Hill Country, and the terrain there gives wind something to accelerate over. Ridge caps and rake edges take more of that than they do on flat ground, and a ridge cap that has lifted is a leak waiting for the next storm rather than a cosmetic issue.
Most of the housing stock dates from the 1990s onward, which means original roofs are largely gone and what we are repairing now is somebody else’s replacement. The quality of that second roof varies enormously, and it is usually the flashing detail that tells us which kind we are dealing with.
